The One Playlist That Helped Me Finish Every Run (Even the Hard Ones)

Running isn’t always easy—but the right music can change everything. Here’s the unexpected playlist that helped me push through half-marathons and fall deeper in love with both fitness and faith.

Even though we live a slower-paced life on the homestead, running is one way I take care of myself—physically, mentally, and spiritually. But some days, it’s just plain hard to get started. And even harder to finish.

If you’ve ever felt the same, I’ve got a simple little tip that might change the game for you: listen to Christian rock while you run.

🤣😂 I know, I know. But hear me out!

I stumbled on Christian rock by accident. My stepmom gave me a bunch of her music years ago, and somehow it landed on my old MP3 player.

(Yes, I’m dating myself here—before MP3s, I used to run with a Walkman in hand. 😆)

One day, I laced up and headed out for a run… and forgot to switch playlists. What I heard surprised me.

Someone telling me I was loved, worthy, and chosen—over and over again. All while I was pushing my limits, trying to finish one more mile.

Let me tell you—that run felt easier. I wasn’t just moving my body. I was encouraged, lifted up, reminded of who I am.

And I’ve been running with Christian music ever since.

My Running Setup

These days, I’ve graduated to an iPhone. 😉

When I run outside, I stream music on Pandora—I have a few different stations saved like “Christian Rock” or “Christian Workout Mix,” and I shuffle between them.

But when I’m on the treadmill, I pull up Christian music videos.

Here’s my go-to playlist:

I’m an emotional runner. If the tempo kicks up or the lyrics really speak to me, I run harder. If it’s slow, I ease up.

But the beauty of it is—I stay moving. Sometimes I’ve even gone an extra mile or two, just because I loved the music that much!

A Shift in My Heart

At first, Christian music was just for workouts. But over time, I started playing it while cleaning the house. Or while driving. Or when I needed a lift on a tough day.

It’s now my go-to soundtrack.

I didn’t always have a deep relationship with God. I was a Christian, sure, but my faith didn’t shape my daily life until more recently.

But Christian music was my entry point. It started on the treadmill and slowly softened my heart.

Give It a Try

You don’t have to be a Christian to work out to Christian music. If you’re struggling to finish your workout—or just to get moving—try listening to something that builds you up instead of wearing you down.

You never know—it might be the very thing that helps you believe you can do hard things.

And if you’re in a season where it’s tough to find time for workouts, you’re not alone. You might enjoy this post: Homesteader-cise. It’s a fun one – all about finding ways to get exercise in on the homestead.

And I hope it helps you too. ❤️

A Peek Into My Runs

Running has been part of my life through every season—literally and figuratively. Whether it’s snowing, sunny, solo, or shared with my dog or kids, these moments remind me why I lace up in the first place.
